What's Audited

A real audit, not a marketing checklist.

Most "free audits" online are sales tools that tell you everything is broken. Ours is built around the same rigorous checklist our founder runs on the live production sites he operates, with every finding honest and specific to your site.

Performance & Speed

Lighthouse scores across all four categories. Largest Contentful Paint, Cumulative Layout Shift, Interaction to Next Paint. Real-device mobile testing.

Technical SEO

Crawl health, indexation, canonical setup, robots.txt, sitemap, hreflang where relevant, redirect chains, 404 errors, broken links.

On-Page SEO

Title tags, meta descriptions, heading hierarchy, internal linking, image alt text, content depth, keyword targeting clarity.

Schema & Structured Data

Organization, LocalBusiness, WebPage, BreadcrumbList, FAQPage, Service. Linked-graph @id integrity. Speakable specification for voice search.

Mobile Usability

Touch targets, viewport, font sizing, layout shift on small screens, real-device testing on iOS and Android.

Google Business Profile

Categories, services, attributes, photos, posts cadence, Q&A, NAP consistency across the web, citation accuracy, review velocity.

AEO Readiness

FAQ schema coverage, HowTo schema where applicable, speakable spec, conversational query targeting, voice-assistant suitability.

GEO / AI Search

Entity richness, schema graph completeness, brand mentions, authority signals, ChatGPT and Perplexity visibility testing.

Accessibility

WCAG 2.2 AA compliance check, color contrast, keyboard navigation, screen reader support, ARIA usage, focus management.

What the audit will not tell you

Every free audit you have been offered before probably arrived with a score out of 100 and a long red list. That is a sales device. A score is easy to generate and impossible to act on, and the red list is long because a long list is frightening. Ours is deliberately different, which means being clear about its limits.

It will not tell you what your competitors are doing wrong. We look at your site against what actually ranks in southern Vermont, but we are not going to hand you a teardown of a named local business. You would not want us doing that to you.

It cannot see inside your analytics. Unless you give us access, we are working from what is publicly visible: the pages, the markup, the speed, the profile, the search results. That covers most of what determines whether you get found, but it will not tell you which page your existing customers abandon. If you want that layer, share read-only analytics access and we will include it.

It is not a guarantee of rankings. Nobody can promise position one, and anyone who does is either guessing or lying. What the audit tells you is which specific things are currently working against you, and which of those are worth the effort of fixing.

It will not tell you that everything is broken. Sometimes a site is fine and the honest answer is that your problem is somewhere else - pricing, response time, or the fact that nobody has asked a customer for a review in three years. When that is what we find, that is what the report says, even though it means we are talking ourselves out of a rebuild.

What to do with the report once you have it

The report is yours. Take it to another developer if you like - several people have, and that is a perfectly reasonable outcome. Here is how to read it so it is actually useful rather than another PDF in your downloads folder.

Start with the items marked as costing you money now. A site that takes six seconds to load on a phone, a missing or wrong phone number, a contact form that silently fails, an unclaimed Google Business Profile: these are not SEO refinements, they are leaks. Fixing them changes the number of calls you get, usually within weeks rather than months.

Then the things that decide whether you are found at all. Whether your pages say which towns you serve. Whether your services are on their own pages or buried in one long list. Whether the markup tells a search engine, and now an AI assistant, what your business actually is. These are slower to pay off and they compound.

Leave the cosmetic items last, or forever. If the report notes that your heading hierarchy is untidy or an image is larger than it needs to be, that is worth knowing and it is not worth losing a weekend over. We mark these as low priority on purpose, because the usual failure mode is spending all the available energy on the easy items and never touching the ones that matter.

Ask us about anything that is unclear. Reply to the email the report came in and a real person will explain it, whether or not you ever become a client. If a finding does not make sense, that is our failure to explain it, not yours to decode.

And if, after reading it, the honest answer is that your site needs rebuilding rather than patching, the report will say so and tell you roughly what that costs elsewhere as well as here. You are not obliged to do anything about it. Plenty of people take the report, fix the three urgent things themselves, and we never hear from them again. That is a fine outcome.

How long it takes, and what we need from you

All we need to start is your website address. Not a phone call, not a discovery session, not a form asking for your annual revenue and your biggest business challenge. The address is enough, because everything in the technical half of the audit is publicly visible.

If you want the local-search half to be thorough, it helps to know the towns you actually serve and the two or three services you most want to be found for. Those are one-line answers, and the form asks for them, but the audit runs without them if you would rather not say.

Turnaround is 48 hours or less. It is not instant, because it is not automated: a tool generates the raw measurements in minutes, and then a person reads them, throws out the noise, and works out which findings actually matter for a business like yours. The automated portion is the cheap part and it is the part everyone else sends you unread.

You will get a PDF by email, and nothing else. No follow-up sequence, no call booked on your behalf, no second email a week later asking if you had a chance to review it. If you want to talk about it you reply, and if you do not, you have a free report and we have spent a couple of hours on someone who might remember us in a year. That trade has worked out fine so far.
